Restylane^® Explained

Restylane^® is a gel filler used to instantly smooth away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. With just one treatment at Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, you'll get long-lasting and natural-looking results.

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring molecule that acts as the body's internal moisturizer. HA's primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. As you age, your skin loses HA due to sunlight exposure, pollution, stress, and other factors. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds.

While this is happening, collagen loss can further compound the problem of visible aging. Pockets of healthy fat that give faces a youthful roundness can also shift over time, gradually getting pulled toward the ground.

Dermal fillers like Restylane^® safely and effectively replenish the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, smoothing away unwanted facial wrinkles and folds and restoring natural contours around your nose and mouth. The gel consistency serves to replace volume lost to diminishing or shifting fat.

Restylane^® Options

Restylane-L^®

This formula contains a small amount of lidocaine to make the injection process into the nasolabial area or lips more comfortable. Specifically designed for injections considered to be mid to deep, this filler is ideal for addressing moderate to severe nasolabial folds because of the depth at which it adds volume. It is also used for adding volume to lips that have thinned due to collagen loss over time, or that have always been thin due to genetics.

Restylane^® Refyne

Like other Restylane^® fillers, Refyne serves to soften the look of nasolabial folds. Its manufacture with a special process based on XpresHAn Technology^™ means it is especially suited for patients who want natural-looking results as they continue to make a range of facial expressions. Refyne is also used to smooth out marionette lines that form as vertical lines between the edges of the mouth and the chin.

Restylane^® Defyne

Also made with XpresHAn Technology^™, Defyne is another Restylane^® filler that treats marionette lines and nasolabial folds, though its formula makes it most appropriate for noticeably deep folds. Successfully filling in such lines requires an injectable that adds significant enough volume to create a smooth look, while still allowing for freedom of natural facial motion.

Restylane^® Lyft

Volume loss in the midface can change contours not just where the cheeks are, but also farther down due to sagging tissue. Lyft restores that volume, making the cheek area rounder and fuller, which also pulls up sagging skin to keep the jawline clean and well defined. A versatile injectable, Lyft can also be used to augment cheeks that just need a little boost and to enhance the backs of hands that have developed a skeletal look due to volume loss. Of course, correcting nasolabial folds is also an option.

Restylane^® Silk

Unique among the other fillers in the Restylane^® family, Silk's formula contains particles that are smoother and smaller than the options used for reducing the appearance of facial folds. The texture works well to address fine lines that form around the always-active mouth, as well as to give thin lips a noticeable—but still subtle—boost.

Restylane^® Contour

Contour is for subtle cheek rejuvenation, creating more youthful contours in the mid-face, where volume loss leads to a reduction in definition. The filler moves naturally along with facial tissues when expressions are made. Contour is the only cheek filler made with XpresHAn Technology^™.

Restylane^® Kysse

As the first lip filler made with XpresHAn Technology^™, Kysse can enhance both the texture and the color of the lips for up to a year. The gel is designed to mimic natural movement by being especially flexible. Smooth lip lines and enjoy precision correction of signs of aging related to volume loss.

Your Restylane^® Treatment

While the various members of the Restylane^® family are unique, they share the same basics when it comes to treatment sessions. At our Beverly Hills office, injections are made with an ultra-fine needle. A topical numbing cream can be applied prior to your treatment to minimize the "pinch" sensation.

The injection itself takes less than half an hour in most cases. Following the injection, your physician may gently massage the treated areas and/or apply a cool compress to reduce swelling. You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Usually mild to moderate in nature, these reactions typically clear up on their own in seven days or sooner.

The duration of results depends on the Restylane^® brand chosen. The procedures are quick and easy, and the results are visible right away!

More Than Restylane^®
