The Fraxel® DUAL laser at the Los Angeles area's Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills improves on the practice's longtime use of Fraxel® technology by offering two benefits for patients: it targets the skin's surface while also impacting deeper layers to provide a comprehensive rejuvenation.
A Fraxel® treatment is a non-invasive procedure that can focus on improving tone and texture, reducing the appearance of brown spots, acne scars, and more. When you visit our office for Fraxel® DUAL Laser, you will undergo an assessment prior to starting any treatment plan. We may recommend one of the two Fraxel® DUAL laser modes, or even a combination of them both.

Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills is a physician-only practice consisting of four board-certified dermatologists who are innovators in the field of aesthetic dermatology. Our experienced team of skin-focused professionals takes a personalized approach to Fraxel® DUAL laser and other cosmetic treatments.
Our dermatologists will oversee all aspects of your initial consultation, procedure, and follow-up process for Fraxel® DUAL laser and other aesthetic surgical and nonsurgical techniques. Each member of the team is highly knowledgeable on advanced laser skin resurfacing treatments, such as Fraxel® DUAL laser, and is dedicated to achieving natural-looking, exceptional outcomes.
The light energy from a Fraxel® DUAL laser is designed to travel deep into the targeted skin area, penetrating the surface as a group of microscopic energy columns. These columns—each surrounded by a larger area of untouched skin—trigger natural repair processes by stimulating collagen, which gradually fills out lines, dents, and divots to reduce their appearance. Simply put, Fraxel® promotes your skin's own healing efforts, resulting in natural rejuvenation that can remove years from your appearance.*
Some results will be visible after one treatment, but multiple Fraxel® treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired effect. Note that just after Fraxel® treatments, your skin may appear red and exhibit some swelling, similar to the look and feel of a sunburn. This typically resolves in several days, if not sooner. As the old, treated skin flakes away, fresher, healthier-looking skin will be revealed. Fraxel® offers treatments that can be ablative (removing cells from the skin's top layer), non-ablative (milder and not harmful to the skin's surface), or a combination of the two.
The revitalized look can be long-lasting, though the duration depends on a mix of factors, including age, lifestyle, and ongoing skin care. Talk to the Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills team about the best options for maintaining fresh-looking skin both at home and with ongoing treatments from an experienced dermatologist.
The Fraxel® DUAL system combines two infrared lasers with wavelengths of 1550nm and 1927nm, for fully customizable results. Between its two modes, Fraxel® DUAL laser can accomplish quite a bit:
Fraxel® DUAL laser treatments can be used to improve the appearance of skin on the face and neck, chest, arms and legs, and back.
Fraxel® DUAL laser works by kickstarting collagen remodeling – but what is really is collagen and why is it vital for skin health? Collagen is the most common protein found throughout the human body. Put simply, it acts as the "glue" that holds everything together. It is primarily found in the body's connective tissues, bones, muscles, and tendons. When it comes to the skin, collagen plays an important role in anchoring cells together and maintaining strength and elasticity, as well as providing a structure that can hold beneficial hyaluronic acid molecules. Along with this, the tough, flexible protein also helps in the process of replacing dead skin cells with new ones and in wound closure by forming the basic fibrous network in the dermis (the middle layer of skin) upon which new cells grow.
Collagen is one of the main components that keeps the skin looking supple, smooth, and youthful. When levels begin to deplete, the loss impairs the structural integrity of your skin and affects its appearance. This change, along with a reduction in the levels of elastin (a protein that gives the skin elasticity) and moisture, plays a significant role in the development of crow's feet, worry lines, and other common cosmetic skin concerns.
Fraxel® DUAL is a popular laser skin resurfacing tool designed to revitalize the skin and improve its texture by making controlled micro-injuries that stimulate new collagen formation in the dermis.
Collagen loss is linked to both internal and external factors. The first signs of aging are typically seen around a person's mid-30s. As you grow older, your body begins to naturally produce less of the protein. Age-related collagen degradation is one of the most common causes of thin, dull, sagging skin and wrinkles. Additionally, overexposure to sunlight and other environmental factors, habits like smoking, and lifestyle factors including chronic stress may speed up the decline in collagen production.
Gut health is also an influence, since a diet that is high in sugar may be to blame for dull, brittle skin. This is because too much glycation (a process by which sugar in the bloodstream bonds with proteins) causes chronic inflammation and damage to nearby connective protein fibers while also making the skin less resistant to assailants. Prolonged contact with ultraviolet radiation from sunlight accelerates the aging process by penetrating the skin layers and causing long-term damage to the DNA of cells. Fraxel® can help to reverse this damage.
Patients looking to reduce the appearance of scars, improve skin tone, and more may also consider microneedling. Like the Fraxel® DUAL laser, this treatment creates incredibly small injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production, but microneedling uses small, thin needles instead of laser energy to create the columns. This treatment can also be paired with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to further boost its effects.
In addition to Fraxel® DUAL laser, one of the other commonly used alternatives to minimalize the symptoms of aging, acne, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage is intense pulsed light (IPL). IPL therapy uses gentle beams of light at different wavelengths to penetrate the lower layers of the skin without harming the surface layer or surrounding tissues.
For more severe or advanced wrinkles, pigmentation issues, and scars, UltraPulse™ Fractional C02 Laser technology can create dramatic results.
